Lab-sterilized rye grain spawn, ready to inoculate. Each 1 lb bag holds premium, triple-washed rye berries hydrated with our process that reduces burst kernels, then autoclave-sterilized and sealed with a 0.2 µm filter patch and a self-healing injection port.

How It Works

1. Sanitize: Glove up and wipe the injection port with an alcohol pad.
2. Inoculate: Inject 3–5 cc of liquid culture per bag.
3. Colonize: Store dark at 75–80°F. Growth usually shows in 7–14 days, and the bag is fully colonized in about 2–3 weeks.
4. Use your spawn: Mix the colonized grain into bulk substrate (CVG for many species, hardwood sawdust or logs for shiitake and lion's mane), or use it for grain-to-grain transfers.

Yield Expectations

Grain spawn is the "seed" for a bigger grow, so yield depends on what you spawn it into. Our kits use 2 lb of grain per 4.5 lb of substrate: pair 2 bags with our 4.5 lb Pasteurized Substrate Bag.
